On the 6th June 2019, a China Telecom (Europe) Ltd (CTE) engineer discovered a Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) interruption at Safe Host SA – a Swiss client, during a routine customer network maintenance task. The engineer increased the prefixes limit during troubleshooting and then found out that the customer advertised massive numbers of abnormal prefixes, resulting in anomalous route propagated to some of the peering providers and customer circuits lasting for approximately one hour. The incident was resolved after an immediate action.
Since the incident, CTE has been actively in contact with Safe Host SA. A further investigation will be conducted jointly by CTE and Safe Host SA.
We sincerely apologise to customers being affected and any inconvenience caused by this incident.
