“United we stand”:
China Telecom (Europe) Ltd. supports its neighbours during the Covid-19 outbreak
Updated 14 April 2020
At a time when support for friends and neighbours has never been more important, China Telecom (Europe) Ltd. (CTE) has been helping the communities where it has regional offices.
In the UK, CTE took part in “Together we fight against the virus” in London on 28th February 2020. Chinese enterprises and Chinese-British business associations pledged to work together to fight the epidemic using China’s experience and to maintain bonds of friendship through the toughest times.

CTE also joined Chinese and British businesses in a China-UK charity partnership on 6th March 2020. The project launched new ways for businesses to work together to raise money for good causes in China and London. It also aims to develop stronger economic, trade and cultural links that will support businesses through the challenges of the Covid-19 epidemic. Thirteen businesses have already donated, and are helping to set up health facilities in Yunnan Province as well as funding projects around London.

In the Netherlands, the Benelux office of CTE joined the programme “Holland united to defeat the epidemic” by donating 4,000 disposable medical masks. There is no mask factory in the Netherlands and local supplies were exhausted. The masks were bought from an accredited producer and, after consulting with the Embassy and the Dutch Foreign Investment Agency, were donated to the national anti-coronavirus centre. They will send the masks to the Dutch Red Cross, who in turn will direct them to the areas of greatest need.

In Italy, on 10th March 2020 CTE has donated 2,000 protective masks to the mayor of the city of Verona, where CTE is constructing a smart city. The epidemic spread very quickly in Italy, and started earlier than elsewhere in Europe, and the city was unprepared. The masks will be used by government employees who are in face-to-face contact with the public including police and social services providers. Mayor Sboarina thanked CTE for the gifts which will help the city of Verona to keep their staff safe.

CTE has also donated 1,000 medical masks to its business partner Telecom Italia Sparkle in boxes printed with good wishes. They will be invaluable to TI Sparkle’s front-line employees, who are working with Italian homes to keep them connected to the internet through the crisis.

In Turkey, CTE Turkey, Chinese businesses in Turkey and international students donated medical supplies to the Turkish government as the epidemic took hold. CTE contributed 2,000 medical masks. At the start of the outbreak the Turkish government and people sent support to China, and the Chinese business community sent medical equipment to China. Now Chinese businesses can show their firm support for Turkey and demonstrate their belief in co-operation and unity between countries.

In Germany, CTE (Deutschland) has donated nearly 4,000 masks to clinics, nursing homes and a pharmaceutical factory, with the message “We stick together through good times and bad times”. Many local companies had reported a lack of medical equipment, especially masks. Doctors, nursing home staff and factory workers have all sent their thanks.

We send all our friends and neighbours across Europe this message during these difficult times: “The virus doesn’t recognise borders, and neither should we as we unite against it. This is an opportunity to strengthen our friendships. Only by working together can we win.”
